2022-2023 Strike Campaign

Campaign Resources: This contains a number of posters and campaigning activites that we used. It abruptly stops before our planned 72-hour strike of May 2024 which was unfortunately called off.

Pay cut calculator: When we were campaigning to continue the strike campaign, we pointed out that our pay would see a real decrease under the management proposal. We were right. Using the latest CPI figures at the time of writing (March 2024), the below quarterly graph shows the depth of the real wages lost at Sydney University over 2020 to 2023, which the pay rises of our enterprise agreement are not set to win back!

Bargaining summaries: Due to failures to provide easily accessible bargaining summaries, we took to publishing them on our website.

2022 Election Archive

Rank and File Action ran for the first time in the 2022 NTEU elections, with an excellent result, standing for democratic principles about how our branch should operate, and a clear vision for how our union can get real wins. Nick Riemer was elected unopposed as Branch President, and David Brophy won academic vice president with 48% of the primary vote in a three-way contest. RAFA’s candidate for general vice president, Dylan Griffiths, won the highest number of primary votes, but Fightback preferences went to the right meaning Thrive took the position. Finola Laughren won Casuals Representative with 59% of the vote. RAFA won 43% of the branch committee general representative votes, and ended up with 7/15 of the positions in the local committee, with four positions each to the other two votes. This was a historic result for the left of the branch.

After two resignations from branch committee due to leaving the university, a by-election was held in 2023. RAFA won both of these positions, meaning Nikki Wedgwood and Jason Todd also joined the branch committee.
